Best Bass Amp Rig for $500-$1000

A single 15 Neo with a 300 watt head will get the job done.....i see some people suggesting 10,s ...i wouldnt even use 10,s for a guitar.Unless your after a thin sound i would be lookin at a 15...Nice deep fat tones if the cab has a tweeter get the wire snippers out...lol...its bass your after right? Good luck im going to grab some popcorn now..

I'm not a fan of the Markbass cabs/combos (or color scheme) but the heads Ive used were more than serviceable. They just seem a little pricey for what you get, and their is nothing exceptional about them. IMO.

The Ampeg Pf500 sounds good to me, I demo'd it today (in a music store) with an Ampeg SVT210AV cab and I really dug it. But it's definitely a darker, more covered sound with no tweet. And that's not a high powered cab, but one could always just add a second.

I've no experience with Acoustic gear.

My cabs are custom 1x12 + 6" mid, as I don't really like the sound of a tweeter.

The exception to that is the Bergantino cabs I've tried. They consistently sound good, with a smooth high end that most other tweeter equipped cabs are lacking to my ear.

A PF500/MB500/TH500/etc. driving a used Bergantino 112 (of any variety) would make a killer rig for your purposes, IMO.

Any love for Markbass, Ampeg, or Acoustic? I'm definitely new to this but the more I see feedback it just sounds like everyone has their own personal preference of brands and cabinet/head setups.... I'm really just hoping to get a good suggestion of what configuration I should be looking for and then maybe I can see what each brand has to offer and if I like the sound. I didn't realize how complicated this would be :)

let me explain my current situation... I had a 6 space rack.... power conditioner, QSC amp, preamp and compressor... it wasn't as heavy as an all tube head but it wasn't light.... I had a 80lb 410 cabinet..... f all that crap... lol

I now have a mesa d800 (5.5lb head) and 2 Aguilar db 112's (45lbs each but easy to carry and put in my car) and a pedalboard for some added effects.... it's great.... easy to move around and the tone is just insane.... for my needs :)....

I agree I use to use a Ampeg 6x10 classic cab and SVT 6 pro head. That was a big rig to carry every weekend out. So now i have the AMpeg pf500, which is good but want TH500, and the 2 Aguilar DB 112. Cabinets are amazing.

Markbass LM II plus Aguilar 112. I have two 112's. Use one and you have a pretty small and easy to move rig, which sounds very great. Use 2 and it's just beautiful - deep, rich and loud. They have gotten pricey though. The hard thing about all of this that the real test of your whole rig (including your bass) is how it sounds with the band when you play out. What it sounds like in your basement alone or (especially) in the store is not necessarily a good indication. And, if you want to really hear the rig and not just all kinds of boom from the floor and room resonances, use an isolation pad like an Auralex gamma.
