best bridge

For my money, it would be a Hipshot 'A' every time.

For sheer solidity, engineering, workmanship, finish and a feeling of confidence, I recommend the ABM. It's machined from a single billet of brass, has great range of adjustments and the saddles lock down. There is no waste of the string's energy - it all goes to the pups. I have one on a Warmoth-based 4 string p/j.
Great bridge - I can't believe the sustain and punch.

I built 2 basses - one with an ABM brass bridge and the other with a Hipshot A bridge, also in brass. Both went on mahogany bodies with Warmoth J necks (the electronics were totally different). In an AB comparison, they are similar or same weight, sound similar unplugged and even feel similar. They both sound better than any other bridge I've tried (definitely deeper than the BA's I've played). The Hipshot edges the ABM out because intonation adjustment on the ABM is done by sliding the saddles into place while the Hipshot has screw adjustments. Saddles lock on both.

i like the idea of the abm- seems very well made- the only thing is i want to do this without making new holes- i want to be able to got back to original -if i ever need to- just in case this base someday is one that is worth something if all the original parts are there- seems the badass is a direct fit- but i think that there probably is one that is made or engineered better. do you think i would be making the bass loss value if i altered it.....

hipshot A bridge now has a fender mount 5 hole style, it is a good bridge, but it is massive, heavier than my old Badass II. I prefer the Hipshot vintage though, heavy bridges are useless to me, I don't think they add anything to the instrument apart from mass of course IMHO YMMV etc

I am a huge fan of acoustic style bridges. Particularly if it's on a fretless. once you get them dialed in, you never need to touch them again.
see the one that Rob Allen developed for his "Solid 4"

I'd buy one and mount it on my next bass if he sold them. Absolutely brilliant in my opinion. If the bridge is done correctly and matches the scale length and the fretwork is good, and the nut is good (in other words if you have a truely professional setup) that bridge of RA's would work totally well on a fretted bass and be extremely simple to boot.
In my opinion, simpler is always better!
