Best clip on tuner?

I have a handful of different brands and they all work kinda funky constantly having to keep playing a string to get them to register something. Nothing beats a plug in tuner so my favorite is my Korg Pitchjack (no longer made).

I finally got the Peterson because of the sweetener feature, Specially if you are a multi instrumentalist, woodwind for me and helps me to tune my upright piano granted you really have to do most of it by ear.

I have the Peterson hdc but it struggles to catch notes on the b string if you're using a 5'r.

If any kind of tuner has a problem with low B, I play the 12th fret harmonic. Works like a charm.

I love clip-ons. My favorites are the Peterson, TC Unitune, and I've had a couple from Korg that also performed great.

I've owned a few Snarks. They worked just fine... until they didn't.

TC Unitune. Perfection. Fast, very accurate, nails low B in its sleep.
6 bucks cheaper than the equally great Polytune, so depending on your need.

I use a TC Electronic Unitune clip on, a Polytune Clip on, but my favorite is this Peterson clip on:

Yes, it is $60 (or $80 for the rechargeable one), but the "sweetened tuning" makes it worth it to me. It is dead-nuts accurate and works very well for setting intonation.

It takes some practice to have the strobe wheel not drift, but once you learn how to use it, you won't want anything else -- except maybe the TC Electronic clip Ons in strobe mode which are significantly less expensive, but durable gear in their own right.

Troll on Reverb, and you can probably get a few bucks off that price for either of the Peterson clip ons.

I also have a Peterson StroboPLUS HDC, which has a price that will stop your heart ($179). Very, very useful for dialing exact intonation and also using as a smart metronome.

Buy once, cry once.

Good luck in your quest. I know these units are expensive, but years ago a Petterson Strobe tuner was over $1000 (in years ago money,) so getting the modern sweetened tunings, display of cents off accuracy, and the other features make these worth it to me in this day and age. I've worked hard my whole life, so splurging on this type of thing is an acceptable compromise to me.

TC Electronic Polytune, I have used mine daily for about 10 years so it's durable and reliable. The only actual repair I've had to do is tightening the hinge screw once.

Boss TU-05 is my favorite. I have one from Peterson, another from Fender, and few other brands I do not remember the names. TU-05 has been the most reliable, accurate and fast one. IMO and IME, of course...

The reason I want a clip on is so when I am building I don't have to wire in a pickup to dial in intonation and test the neck before stripping the bass down and taking it into the finish stage.

but i like [ D'Addario PW-CT-12 Micro Headstock Tuner ] because i don't have to remove it when i put my axes in gig bags (and the 'discreet' profile):

That's the one I use, for the same reason. It stays on my headstock permanently, never gets in the way.

I bet that the Peterson is actually a higher quality tuner, tracks better an d all that.
But for a clip on, it is convenience I prioritize.

I get that with the Daddario Micro tuner. It's so small, no one will know you have it on your instrument.

Great Tuner, just remember to occasionally tighten the screw and bolt that attach the tuner head to the clip. Otherwise the bolt will come off and vanish
You'll not be able to replace it and as far as I know there are no replacements for the screw or bolt.
