Best Combo/Jam Amp?

2 people said the Ampeg B100R. you said a tight puchy tone. this amp has a great tone and i love mine, but i would hesitate because of what you said you were after to suggest this amp to you. its smooth and classic not tight and punchy.
try one out anyway they are great at what they do!

I'm not familiar with specific problems for either amp. Maybe the subject for searches and/or new topics to post.

Basically, you can blow almost any speakers with almost any amp if you overdrive it enough. Sounds like in your situation that shouldn't be an issue.

If you your budget is allowing, I'd say the Peavey BAM. It can model an 800RB with a Hartke 4x10. I think that's 'modern' enough, just the same, it can model a lot of classics like the Fliptop 1x15 or SVT-CL with an SVT 8x10.

It's models are very true to the original. Best of all, you can run it uncolored as well, which gives it's own incredible tone. It also allows combinations to be used, like the 8x10" of the SVT with the 800RB on top.

Incredible amp. It costs an arm and a leg though.

Havent had the chance to play a swr red head but have heard the same thing about the speakers. Im a huge fan of swr cabs and I do like there heads. For me, I have found that ebs is everything swr wanted to be and more. I can get alot more tones as well as the swr tones. I currently run ebs, bergantino rigs. The taurus has some built in effects to play arround with. The newer gorm has more power but not the effects. IMO ebs sounds much louder in volume than their specs. To be honest, I would look for at least a 200-300watt head and a 1x12 cab. Small, loud and you could build upon when your needs change. Just an example; used gk 800rb and a bergantino ht112. There are alot of little head/cab setups for arround $600-$800. Good luck.

OK well its been a few weeks and all I can say is damn! Anyone who's never tried EBS's need to. This amp has great tones, is really variable, and has a chorus and octaver built in! The punch is amazing that I'm getting out of 2 10s. Being a former guitar player, I was always under the assumption that bass players had to have 15's or 18's well I was REALLY wrong. I'm finding out so much here on TB Great forum and a Great bunch of guys and gals! G1
My first and definately not my last deal from TB!!

Yeah, being a "new" bass player, this site is great and again, so much info!
Would like to thank junglebike for the great amp.

On another note, I was amazed at how UPS treated this package. I was waiting for the delivery and actually saw the driver "roll" the box end over end until I stopped him. There were "this end up" and fragile notations all over the box but still, the driver just "rolled" the box. Luckily, the amp was well packed so no damage but again, I was amazed at the lack of care that was shown-no hand truck, no cart and when I stopped him, he looked at me as if I had done something wrong. Amazing!
