Ever heard of turn up the mids and treble and pluck more viciously and it sounds the same with your fingers as it does normally with a pick?

Sorry, can't say I have, as it sounds nothing alike.

Record me a clip of you playing fingers where it sounds like a typical, pick played, punk tone and I might change my mind.

Plastic contact against the string compared to skin is nothing similar.

You're right, plastic against the strings creates a ticking noise on your tracks. Playing with your fingers prevents this. That would be the only difference regarding sound.

That would be Brian Baker or Steve Hansgen, depending on vintage. Brian Baker was the original bassist, but he moved to guitar for the "Out of Step" album.
