Double Bass Best file size for bridge string fittings?

I'm working on fitting some new bass bridges and wondering what is the best way to cut the slots for the strings? Seems like a variety of small round files would be ideal. Other ideas? Best sized for average sized strings?

A very light touch.

Be sure not to strangle your strings in a deep groove.
Half the string diameter should be “proud”.

A rat file can do all sizes.

I would make the E groove a bit deeper than half, otherwise the string can jump out of the groove if you pluck or slap hard.

I have used small drill bits with abrasive paper tightly wrapped around.

Get a pair of calipers if youll be using a lot of types of strings. .060", .075",.090", and .105" will cover most of the strings most players are driving these days (guts will need a few chainsaw sharpening files)

I have a few cheap Chinese needle file sets which work fine.

I don't always adjust stringed instruments, but when I do, I use the appropriate diemaker's needle files. Or a sharp Xacto knife.
