Hello all. I have had my eyes on a beautiful Jerzy Droyd fretless lined 5 on eBay. However it is 1,000 over my limit. I also have been looking at a F bass bn6 for 3,200 but that is a 6 string and unlined. So I am just wondering what the community has to say about this.

I play solo bass comp to Michael manring. Will use daddario light guage strings, I like bartolini pick ups, it can be used or new. I own now a Zon vinny(fretted) a Zon SONUS fretted that I'm trying to sell, a Pedulla pentabuzz with piccolo strings that I LOVE, and now looking for my next fretless 5 that will have normal light guage strings. Thanks for your input TB as always.

Wow, there's a lot of great options in that range... Are you looking for something more traditional and fender styled, or something more boutiquey, like the Pedulla or Jerzy? (I'm assuming the latter based on what you are watching on eBay)

Are you strictly looking at new or used? or both?

Yes boutique bass. I figured used would be the best as far as getting the best deal for a sweet bass. That is assuming the bass is in great shape of course : ). Thanks for comments

If I were in your position, I'd get a Pedulla Pentabuzz. No hesitation!

Edit: Sorry. I failed to notice that you already have one. But, since you "love" the one you already have, why not get another?

Roscoe make the best fretless bass I have played. I have a new Roscoe Century Standard Plus with quilt maple top, Bart pups and pre being built as we speak for $2,950. You may find a used one for around $2,300 but they don't come up often - for a reason.

Here's a link to my bass that's being built:

Also, on the Rocket Music site you can look at all kinds of Roscoe's on the Archive link. Greg is a great guy to deal with, too. I've bought like 3-4 from him.

Roscoe would be very nice. There are probably some used Ken Smiths in that range too and the pickup placement and preamp sound great with fretless.

Hmmmm. Tough choices. Not crazy about ibanez though. However I am sure his sig model is not your typical ibanez. Thanks

If you're OK with waiting, I'd keep my eye open for a used Alembic fretless.

I suppose if you like short scales. That wouldn't be my first choice, though. I'd keep an eye out for a Europa or one of the other 34" scale basses, personally. I have an Alembic Orion fretless and it's absolutely fantastic.
