Best lightweight, closed headphones ?

I got some Tascam TH-200X on a Black Friday special and love them. Sealed cans, very nice low end response, more than my other studio headphones. It is hard to imagine beating them for the money.

I use the Phil Jones headphones, (I love all PJ bass gear) last time I checked they were $100.

Curious about Sennheiser HD 558 vs. BD 770 -- anyone made that comparison with a board feed?

As a bass player, I prefer Beyer immensely. I feel the "weight" of the bass is superior on the Beyers vs. Senn

I picked up several pair of AKG 240's from GC for about $55 recently, saw them on Amazon for about the same price. They are semi-closed, for better bass response but still very comfortable. I think AKG may be discontinuing them, thus the low price. I paid well over $100 for a pair of these a few years ago.

My ATH-M40X's are very, very comfortable.

A bunch of generalisations:

The M30's are voiced more for vocals, and the earcups seem to be harder.
The M40's are very, very neutral. Nearly perfect. The earcups are very soft and very comfortable.
I haven't tried the M50's, but they're supposedly bass-heavy so not so good for recording. Apparently the ear cups are much the same.
For me, the M40's are worth the little bit extra just because of the swivelling ear cups and the detachable lead.

Honestly, I don't feel that any other headphone gets close in this price range. Maybe try some foam under the cups? Or order the M50 cups?

I know this post is a little old, but the m40x are amazing value for what they are. Pretty neutral, without the exagerated bass that a lot of new headphones have, but enough bass to clearly here what is going on.

The only thing lacking is a bit of sound stage, changing the pads for some brainwavz pads makes these headphones pretty close to perfect.
