Best lightweight combo for those live conditions

Best two combos I have used are the Redhead and the Markbass 210..not sure of the model number. 102f or something

Both gives 350 watts so they cover a lot of bases..altho' I wouldn't call the Redhead light.
The Markbass 210 uses the MB LK11 IIRC which is a great amp on its own..
You could use that amp with any number of speakers like 2 GS12's or Epi's..

Not a fan of Epis myself as the bottoem end is TOO soft so all things considered, I'd vote for the MarkB 210 combo...it is a cracking combo all round...

I have used the MB and Genz gear in limited, but live gigging situations, and while they are fine pieces of gear; well built and well designed, none of them come close to the tube quality of the Mesa Walkabout. Of course this is IMO/IME .. but it seems to me that there are many others here to have had the same or similar experience.

That being said, only you can say what best fits your tone goals and your financial situation.

hey guys. thanks a lot for all your answers and suggestions, I was gone the last 3 days on a hike so I'm catching up now. Don't have much time right now, but I'll check out the stores in the next days, see if the GB, MB and Mesa stuff is around here. Financally I don't really have any restrictions, but I won't overpay something either. I'll definitely wait for your reviews bkk :)

basically what I want is the most loudness for the easiest "movability" :)

I've got a Markbass LMII head that I play a lot and really like with my Ampeg cabinets. Can't go wrong IMO. But if you're looking for a combo specifically, you may want to try the Markbass Jeff Berlin combo. It's the LMII (or LMIII) head with a single 15" speaker. The whole thing weighs just 46 lbs. I've played several and really like the tone. The cost here is around $1,100 but I bet you could do better.

If they are really in the 40 pound range...yes. There are reports that they are really 50+. A difference that may affect the decision for some.

I have had a kickback 10 for a while and recently started using it for gigs. Pretty impressed...especially since I have PA support. Plus, you can get a great tone out of it.

IMO, 40 lbs. and 50 lbs. isn't much of a deal breaker but the compactness and easy portability along with headroom and tone would sell it to me. I've been watching a couple on ebay and trying to sell my rig to fund it. I can't do a thing until my rig sells though. :(

I'll let you know since I have a Carvin BR515N on the way. The shipping weight according to UPS is 57 pounds, so I am thinking it is around 50...

If you're happy with the sound of your GK head, then why not just get a smaller cab, like a GK Neo112? Throw the head in the shoulder bag, pick up the cab, and you're out the door. And you're still under 50 lbs. If you're set on a keeping the 1001rb at home, then pick up the 400rbIV, and you're well under 50 lbs at that point. There are just so many more options available when you go separate head and lightweight cab.

the 1001 is in a huge flightcase so it's not easily transportable... I want to be able to go to a gig with public transportation if necessary.. so that would be a bass on the back and carrying the combo in an other hand :)

If you dig the GK sound, then as I mentioned.... 400rbIV into the 112. The shoulder bag and bass on the shoulders, cab in one hand...... probably even easier than lugging a 50 lb. combo.

Orig after I bought it, Carvin said they were out of stock and offered me a BR510N. Going by my past with 2x10 combos and looking at the specs of the 2x10 cab vs. the 1x15, I still wanted the BR515N. I went to cancel and they were able to come up with one to ship.

Thinking about it though, the 2x10 probably would have been fine. I am just wondering how it transports as besides the weight, the ergonomics play an important role.

Time will tell-it is due this Thurs.

I just did a gig last night at a restaurant/bar with around 100 people in it and room to spare. The band has me on bass, a loud guitarist :rolleyes: , keyboards, drums and a sax player. We were fairly loud but not to the point of requiring earplugs; I was playing my March '73 4001 into my Markbass Minimark (2-6" drivers + small horn) and filled up the place just fine :eek: ;) :hyper:. Just sayin'.......... :D

If you are lucky enough to be able to set your amp in a corner or close to a back wall you can get away with a small amp IMO. It is those outdoor gigs with an open stage where it hurts.

I will say that a small rig to me makes my pay go up due to less physical work. :D
