Best Mic for recording bass?

Beyerdynamic M88TG is my absolute favourite. Sennheiser MD421 is also very good. Vintage style ribbons can be VERY cool for some genres but usually very hit-or-miss.

I'm generally not a fan of capacitor mics on bass cabs unless I'm in a very good sounding room. And even then I usually prefer a good dynamic.

But the thing I REALLY don't get is all the recommendations for EXTREMELY scooped sounding kick drum mics like D112 or Beta52. Do you really think your bass sounds good with the mids scooped out to such an extreme???o_O I personally think scooped kick drum mics sound like :vomit::poop::dead: on bass cabs. I would rather use an SM57 for the mids and blend in the necessary lows from a DI.
