Best Mixer For Me

I'm in a band and we're getting closer to play out. So we need to buy the PA. Here's what I'm looking for

1. I have limited vision so it or the app must have a big interface.
2. If it has an app, must be android, not apple
3. I'd like to find it used pretty easily and have a budget of $800
4. We're new to this so I would like it easy to use
5. Or do I go old school with a AH MixWiz

In your situation as you've described, I'd go with the old school MixWiz. The controls are kinda cramped as there's a lot in this small package, so be sure to spend some time with it to know if your situation with your vision will allow you to operate it sufficiently. In this day and age of "smaller, faster, lighter, brighter", you won't find many, if any, consoles built very spread out with a lot of room between the controls. However, in most cases, you'll set up your mixer at first, then you'll be making small and incremental changes, as opposed to constantly mixing "moving targets" and is the case with sound guys sometime.

The only caveat with the MixWiz or any analog console is that you'll most likely need external EQ units for your mains and monitors. These days, those units are all but being given away because of digital consoles making them nearly obsolete.

There are some digital options that will work remotely with Android devices, but I'm not aware of these units at the moment. And since you say you are new to this, the MixWiz is easy enough to learn to get around on and besides, it's a really good unit. It's reliable and it sounds good. And they can be had for less than the budget you said you have to work with. And I'm afraid your vision could be an issue with remote operation unless you get a large Android tablet device (seems like I heard about a 12" Android tablet? Can't remember at the moment...)

Good luck.
