Best Nickel Rounds with medium tension

I've been experimenting with round rounds and really enjoy the DR Pure Blues nickel rounds medium light gauge. However, they seem to be a little floppy (loose), causing me to have to raise the action higher than I would like in order to avoid fret noise. This is partly due to my technique but still, I would rather have something a little higher tension without going into the hex cores which I find to be dead sounding. I have not tried the DR Sunbeams yet but have heard good things. Thanks.

Sunbeams will be even more flexible. I recommend trying DR Nickel Lo Riders. I find them to be a medium tension string. The alternative for me is Dunlop Nickel Super Brights.

I don't know of any other round core that would give you more tension which is why I recommended those particular hex core sets. They are the only hex core I like.

The Super Brights might be the most floppy of them all. Lo Riders sound like a good bet.

Pure Blues "medium-light" = 45-65-80-100... I would bet most of the fret buzz is on the 100e and the 80a. You should try the medium set 45-65-85-105 before trying anything else. I once tried the PB ML set and found E and A looser than G and D.

I agree. I have tried the mediums but I just like the way the medium lights feel under my fingers. I guess it's a trade-off.

I too I'm fond of the Dr lowriders. But they seem to sound a little too dead to my ears. I guess I don't have a lot of choices. I will probably just go back to the medium gauge pure Blues strings.

Somehow my reply got squeezed into the middle of your reply. Strange. Anyway thanks for the recommendation. I won't bother with Sunbeams but I have tried the Lo Riders and they have a great feel but sound a little dead to me. I'm going to try the Pure Blues mediums and see if that works.

I think that is a better bet. I never liked the PBs until I tried the medium set. The medium lights just never sounded good to me.
