I'm considering getting a seven string bass tuned in fourths from low C#. However, the lack of ubiquity of such an instrument has me somewhat limited on options. There are three options I'm considering.
The first is getting a stock Conklin or Ibanez and simply tuning up a whole step, using an effects pedal to achieve the tuning I desire.
The second is getting the Conklin/Ibanez and altering the bridge and nut to accommodate the gauges for the tuning. I'm not very comfortable or experienced in the area of drastically altering hardware.
The final option is ordering a custom bass. I've looked at Knuckle Quakes, but the Knuckle website is no longer active, and can't find any similar basses on a similar budget.
Which option would you recommend?
