I currently play my bass clean and have a Metal zone I use for heavy distortion on certain riffs. But I would like to have my bass have a little distortion all the time instead of always clean. Any tasteful distortion boxes that will make my bass sound alittle more punchier and meaner???

Best pedal for light distortion???

There are so many options to choose from, it's hard for us to tell you what is going be best for your particular needs. Here's some places to start you hunt...
1. Browse the samples in the wiki.
2. Trot down to your local music store and try everything they have. If you find something you like the sound of, buy it.
3. Do a search for "overdrive" and read, read, read.
Personally, I found the Barber LTD V2 to be a perfect compliment for my setup.

just get the fulltone bassdrive. you get your always on lighter drive stage, plus another one with the boost. and then if you get really ballsy, turn on your metal zone too after all that
i find my ibanez turbo tubescreamer ts9dx gives my a really nice bassy light overdrive sound.. lots of character it doesnt lose the low end at all
I actually really like the Boss DS-1 stock with the tone rolled back and the gain at about 75% for light overdrive, or as the person above me said the TS9DX
This has exactly exemplified the point RickenBoggie and I were trying to make. Everyone has a different opinion, and there's lots to choose from.
Yup...I think you want overdrive for sure.
I just got an Analogman modded Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer and it will do exactly what you're looking for. It's perfect for just leaving on to fill out your sound with a slightly distorted signal.
I've also heard that the Barber LTD SR is great for this as well as a Tone Factor Cream Pie (if you can find one...they're not made any longer). I haven't tried these yet though myself.
The Analogman TS9DX is perfect for what you need, though the Barber is less money if you want to give that a go.

Fulltone Fat Boost is a great circuit.
For a nice gritty drive, try searching those and get some ideas from there. Listen to lots of clips and choose what you like for yourself!!!

For light distortion? Eh.....No.
The Cream Pie would be my choice. Light overdrive with excellent boost.
(Sounds almost like I'm describing a fine wine!)
