Revolver is an iconic Rock album. Many list it as the #1 Rock album.
There's Rock, Pop, Psychedelia, R&B, Orchestral, East Indian, etc.
...and who doesn't like backwards guitars?

I'm surprised at all the Yellow Submarine hate. I guess none of you were ever children. I certainly was when I first heard that song, and we all used to sing it at the top of our lungs on the bus out to summer camp(in addition to Henry The 8th and B-I-N-G-O). It's no dumber than a lot of drinking songs that get bellowed out. In my earlier comments, I forgot to mention the shear variety of styles and moods on that album; does no one here know the term 'comedic relief'? Richard Starkey performed the role of "Ringo", the sad sack, in the band, and always did goofy, forlorn, underdog, or schmaltzy material that befitted his character. The tune is John at his most mad, maniacal, juvenile self; proto-Monty Python almost. Anyone remember the bathtub scene in "Hard Day's Night"? Not everything has to be the Tibetan Book of the Dead sung from a mountain top.

I'm surprised too. Yellow Submarine is such a lovely song. I love to play it.

This would be a very tuff question if Eleanor Rigby wasn't involved on it. However, obviously that's not the case.

So, IMHO, Eleanor wins.

Thanks so much for that! It might be bias, or nostalgia, but I've never said this--Ringo is right up there with Moon and Bonzo. Like Watts, he's not flashy but ALWAYS there, always in time.

Probably "Tomorrow Never Knows". A great groove and a great slice of atmosphere. "She Said She Said" and "Taxman" would be next. I'd be curious to know what I'd think if I had been exposed to the whole album at once, instead of hearing the more popular songs off it for many years beforehand.

At the risk of being cliche', Eleanor Rigby stands the test of time for me. The orchestration and vocal harmonies (never mind the lyrics) create the masterpiece of that album for me. But there are several that could wear the silver medal proudly.

I loved Revolver when I first got into the Beatles in the 80's. But I chose "Got To Get You Into My Life" for one reason: It was the ONLY song from that album I had heard before listening to it. It was one of those moments where I thought, "WOW, this is a Beatles song too??" I don't count Yellow Submarine because I had considered that more of a novelty/children's song before that. It's hard to pick just one but if it weren't for the reason given above I'd probably choose "Eleanor Rigby". I love Stanley Jordan's cover version of ER as well.
