Best sound with small mixer

Just joined a three man band and they use a yamaha 512SC
mixer with two EV 12" passive speakers, no added power amps, no monitors, usually small venues. They usually have
the speakers close by...I don't use a bass amp...I go directly
into the mixer...what is the best way..I will use a DI, what brand is best out there ( I have a radial Pro passive) what setting would be best the mixers EQ (665?) I will keep my bass at detent...thank you guys! What's your input on the
mixer...it's tough little one...thank you guys!

Alesis Multi Mix 8 or 16. Simple, easy to use, has phantom power, 100 effects. Great piece. Skip the DI and go VT BASS 1/4 inch into the mixer

I do have a piece of gear that I end up pimpin like mad.

Rolls PM351 can be found for under $100.. you can hardwire IEM and drop your active monitors.. you then can control your own mix.. drummers can use a Rolls PM50 (about $50)

For under $400 your band can have better monitors and less junk to haul.

the best way is to not do that

bring a bass amp and keep your bass out of those little speakers that won't handle it without hurting the sound of everything else. they'll hear better, so will you, and so will the audience.

I agree with Walterw here. Bring a bass amp and get your required volume from that. Leaving bass out of the 12" mains will clear up the mix for vox and guitar and other things.
