Best strap for a 5kg bass

Hi all. I've just bought a Harley Benton 5 string bass and I like it however it's incredibly heavy and weighs 5kg or 11.2lbs and it's causing major shoulder pain. I'm currently using a 3 inch strap. What is the best strap for a bass this heavy?

hi and welcome to Talkbass!

you want something around 10-11cm in width, Thomann has plenty.

somehow my neoprene strap didn't work for me on a 5kg bass, but is a charm for a 4.5kg one. but if you want a recommendation for a neoprene strap, I'd advice a Solostrap Neo 4.

as for leather, Thomann has a Levys 4.5", it's a very regarded strap for heavy basses. also worth looking at Richter Springbreak III and wide Minotaurs.

this said, my current 4" strap for using with a 5kg bass is Walker and Williams one.

Depends on your neck shape. Shoulders (Trapezius muscle) flat or shoulders angled.

IME my shoulders are angled and wide straps just dug into my neck more.
A wide but thin/supple leather strap that was unpadded seemed to conform to my angled shoulder shape and spread the load out better than any other straps for my 4.8kg bass.

+1 to neoprene straps. Not too stretchy but just a little give is my preference.

I'll just put this here.
(Oh...and notice the weight of my basses below)

My most comfortable one for me is my wide Levi's neoprene strap.

My second best is my Kliq Air Cell.

My third is my Ernie Ball neoprene but being narrower, I get some shoulder fatigue on long sessions.

I also have a Gruv Gear Duo Strap made of neoprene but I’ve never been able to figure out how to adjust it properly for me yet !
