Best strings for a Squier Affinity Jaguar bass?

I recently bought an Squier Affinity Jaguar bass with a 32" scale length and I'm having difficulty finding strings that are the correct length and are reasonably priced. D'Addario's string finder recommends 45-100 Regular Light, Medium Scale, XL Chromes, but I'd rather not have to shell out fifty bucks. Does anyone have experience with this bass and what strings would work best with it? Thanks in advance.

D'Addario XL Chromes are flatwound. Is that what you want? Or, can it be roundwound?

You can get a set of "medium scale" nickel rounds for $20.

That looks like what I need, thanks!

I was interested to see how the String Finder could come up with suggesting Chromes, so I went through it:

bass guitar, 4 string, beginner, pop, playing at home, playing with fingers, medium scale, 45-100, warm and mellow -- gave me Chromes

Tried again with bright and balanced instead of warm and mellow -- still gave me Chromes

I really like Chromes but only on the right bass -- that automated recommendation is nonsense!

I like a more balanced set, so I purchase medium scale 105 singles, along with 80 singles when in stock, off the D'Addario website, otherwise, since the tuning pegs are farther up the headstock, then regular long scale 80, 60, and 45 fit just fine with only the tapered leader going around the tuning post, and not the full wound speaking part. If you want something more like flats, GHS has a very good set of medium scale Brite Flats that I use on a custom EB/SG bass that has a 32-inch scale set that work well. I don't know if La Bella still makes flats in a 32-inch scale; it has been quite awhile since I purchased a set. I am having a custom bass made in 32-inch scale and a typical Fender-style plate bridge, but with a reverse headstock so I can use regular long-scale strings and not worry about the E string binding around the tuner post.
