I have just received an email which im sure is a fraudulant way to get your dtails on ebay. It saying click here and log in to make sure no-one is accessing your account. Now funny thing is i dont HAVE an ebay account, aswell as the fact that it was for the US ebay!!

SO BEWARE!!!

There was a scam going around that used paypal as a front. The email looked like it was from paypal, graphics and all, asking for your credit card number to access your account. My Ma almost got burned by this one. :scowl:

I think ebay follow the same guidelines as banks - if they email you they will always use your full name.

Hover your mouse over any link they give you, then look in the status bar of <insert your email program here> and see if it ties up to what they say it is, or if it's an IP address, as is common with scams.

yeah any good business like ebay or paypal will never email you to ask you to double check your information. That being said the emails look very real and have made me second look them before.

I just forward all of them to [email protected] or [email protected].

If I need to check anything, I just go to the websites themselves and check my accounts.

+1 to this. I got a very "official" looking email that purported to be from paypal asking me to update my information. I assumed it was a scam, and sent it to the spoof @paypal.com address, and they replied that it was indeed a scam.

It could have fooled a lot of people, though. It was really well done and looked authentic.

I guess because they don't always come from the same email addresses so it's hard to block them? Also, hotmail is owned by Microsoft...their record on security isn't exactly fantastic

ebay ALWAYS sends a copy of ANY email to your messages account. so see if you have something there, otherwise its a fake.

That's another way of checking. When you log on to your My Ebay account, the same messages will be in your inbox there. If it's not there, it's fake.

I love the spoof paypal ones, i fill them out with fake details all the time, great way to waste time.

Didnt know paypal needed your ATM number! Also, its great, you can sign in with any username and password

i wonder that the odds are that you are actually giving someone's real info out.
