As for what I expect of them when they can't afford it is this, choose very wisely the shows that we accept. That is all.

But that's my point, you are already $5200 down this rabbit hole. Might as well invest another $80 in AAA to alleviate this potential problem. Like another posted said, this van is costing you gigs instead of gaining you gigs, which I imagine was the point of you buying it in the first place, to be able to haul equipment to gigs.
I work for a living too, and we all have financial limitations, but you have opened this door. It seems foolish to me, if breaking down is a major concern, not to buy some sort of tow insurance.
I'm not trying to criticize you, I've been in a band before where I was the only one with a "real" job. I get it.

Then keep up the good work, both music wise and charity wise. Don't expect any "rules" to take care of you, be they agreed upon, written on paper, or even hewn in stone. YOU must take care of you. Know your limits, financially and otherwise. Know how far YOU will go.

Be the good samaritan, be a great person, just make sure you can keep doing it.

Metalbasspro- It's a tough spot. It can be very difficult when everyone is not on the same page with their finances and their commitment level. I also know it can be a large burden financially as well as socially when you are putting a disproportionate amount of time, effort and money into a band. It can lead to resentment on your part for bearing the load, and resentment on their part for needing to contribute more than they feel they can. IF they can get their financial side in order soon then there's hope, but if they aren't willing to commit the effort (using personal space for band gain, prioritizing other band members very valuable time) then the situation isn't going to change and the resentment will still be there. I think you would be doing yourself a big favor if you were able to get into a project with people that have the same means and expectations as you but I wish you well and hope your situation improves. If they get there then I'd say your ground rules would be useful, but if you get the point where they are then those things are probably going to take care of themselves anyway.
