Big Muff with gate control?

It can be done.

Devi Ever makes a lot of gated fuzzes and many sound muffish. The downside is that most of his/her pedals only have two knobs (vol. and gain) and no tone knob.

There are a few gated fuzz options like the Brown Dog, etc. If you want a muff, you'll have to go the 'boutique' route.

I have no idea.

I tend to use my muff for screaming back at me......

And another fuzz for for gated sounds.
Maybe try some DIY pedal forums, there may be some dudes there who may know?

how about putting a gate behind the muff?

My casual fuzz/drive is a Big John Granny Puker, which can sound quite muffish in my opinion. If you turn the octave up, some kind of noise gates seems te be activated too. It's not noisy without the octave, but for it to really sound gated, you have to go with the octave.
