Bill Lawrence L500XL

:help: have just bought a Bill Lawrence L500XL for the bridge.
I want another pickup for the neck.

i was thinking eather the tonerider rocksong or Tonerider Alnico 4 PAF.

I want a loud but warm and smooth Humbucker for the neck.
i hear the Tonerider Alnico 4 PAF is loud and smooth and good for the price.

really i want a little smooth ,warm and clear with my crunch to make it more versatile to play.

any ideas?:bassist:

You might look into Bill's L90. It's even clearer than the 500 and a bit sweeter sounding, more versatile. Very smooth and warm without muted highs. I've used it with a guitar and prefer it over the 500. Bill has mentioned how it would outperform the EB50 (bass 500) as a bass pickup. The L90 would be my first choice if I had a 2nd bass. You might end up really disappointed if you go with a PAF clone and end up with problems like string-to-string balance or an overly compressed tone.

There are virtually limitless options if you're willing to route the neck position for a soapbar type pickup. Not sure how many bass appropriate guitar humbucker designs are out there, or bass pickups in that housing form factor. Are you looking specifically for something to fit in a Gibson-style humbucker route?
