Bill Ward is the Godfather of Heavy Metal Drumming! I'm so glad that he was able to perform with Ozzy, Geezer, and Tony one last time a few weeks ago.
Wasn’t sabbath without bill.
That swing style he has along with people such as Peter criss and Ian paice make a massive difference to the feel, and mark them out as the revolutionary drummers they are

Anyone who loves Spinal Tap and hasn't watched Bad News (and the sequel More Bad News) should do so IMMEDIATELY!!! I think they're both on Youtube. British comedy at it's best. They're like the less successful, scruffier version of Spinal Tap. Some of the funniest moments are of course things that anyone who has done any low budget touring with a struggling band in a van will have experienced, but tried very hard to forget.
When I saw Black Sabbath in 1999 (I think) at Oz Fest, when Ozzy introduced Bill Ward he kept yelling: "Mr. Billlll Ward!!!.......Mr. Billlll Ward!!!!.....Mr. Billlll Ward!!!...." long enough for it to get awkward and weird
probably for about 90 seconds. Thinking back on it...either the lip-synch track got stuck or he was having a mental "episode"
but I'll always remember that whenever I think of Mr. Billlll Ward!!!

I had the honor of seeing him live with Black Sabbath in 1993 here in Brazil (The band line-up back then was Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward and Tony Martin).

I love it on the title track of the first album. Feels like a big weight swinging back and forth...like a wrecking ball or something.
Whole show is a masterclass. Wish more metal drummers would swing like he does. Fairies Wear Boots, Under The Sun, Symptom of The Universe and Children of The Grave are all amazing.
And outside of being part of a legendary rhythm section with Geezer Butler, on the rare occasion he was interviewed for documentaries and such, he was a good storyteller. Even stories we'd heard before from other guys in Sabbath felt fresh when Bill told them.

Bill Ward was never a super technical drummer, but man could he swing! And play heavy!

I was already pretty familiar with Dave Lombardo and Pete "Commando" Sandoval when I was a huge Sabbath fan, but the drums/percussion on Children Of The Grave still get me

Bill Ward is my favorite rock drummer.

IIRC Ozzy and Bill were very close friends back in the day, and Bill took Ozzy's firing very hard. Ozzy may have been happy to have him back.
Saw Sabbath twice in the ‘70’s.
Once in ‘75 on the Sabotage tour, then the next year on the Technical Ecstasy tour.
