First off, used a flat blade to shave the binding material level to the bodies' side. I use an Olfa utility knife w/snap-blades as the blades are sharp and stiff but can also be flexed slightly. I use a curved file for the inner elbows. Important to maintain the width of the binding material on top. It got a bit narrow in a spot of two, but should be able to make it work visually by subtle detail tapering/adjusting.
Then, I filed the gap w/bondo to achieve a flat face/top.
