My bad, the article said that two out of three professional musicians are employed by religious organizations not churches. I got this info from July 2001 Bass Player Magazine. The article was titled 21st-Century Bass Jobs page 14.

Didnt realize the article was that old or I probably would not have quoted it.

What is the difference between me owning an expensive bass and a Gospel bassist? Nothing.. I know several amazing gospel bass players... they all own nice basses.. but for the most part they only have 1 bass. And if you listen to alot of gospel, these buys deserve to play whatever they want to because most of these cats are bass monsters. I would love to start playing bass in a gospel group.. that would be awesome

Playing Gospel music can be as simple as a 1-4-5 progression, or as complicated as you want it to be with the verse, chorus, verse, bridge, vamps, and so on, I enjoy playing it and I can tell you that a lot of the style comes from the blues (old style) and (the shout) is really a kind of rock and roll groove. (if you know what I mean). Most of the stuff I have played is complicated imo, from the standpoint of making sure everyone is on the same page with the many changes that can happen in just one song, like the breaks, vamps, etc... you can spend hours on learning one song that will only last a few moments, I guess you could say that about any music though. I really like when the music stops and the spirit of God has touched the people through the music that the music has to come back in because the people will not sit down because they want to praise God more. Check out some of Fred Hammonds music, or Mississippi Mass choir, (they have a bass player name Sam Scott) who..excuse my english "aint no joke"

As a Priest in study my ministry right now is the music ministry and my jack casady is fitting right in. All the former Catholics it is safe to come back their are some new music ministrys comeing out alot of rock youth bands that support the youth mass adults a very welcomed to come and support and mentor the teens. It is so rewarding because i work with mainly teenaged musicans and seeing their ideas and musical growth is great since they are younger players we do mess up but the really try. A very key aspect to having a church band is pray before you play it really helps. I will be exploring SWR combo amps because the jack dosent sound up to its worth throw the church 30 wt fender amp with a craped out speaker. Like what my signiture says
