Black Widow Bass Speaker

Yes, that's the one. The 5.1mm Xmax lets it move more air than the other BW models which improves its bass response - a bit fatter while still having that punch and warmth plus a bit of mid grind when driven hard. An amp that can push 500 wrms into 8 ohms will drive it for what it's worth and adding a 2nd will give you a modular 4 ohm system with lots of output.

In one of those NAMM 2014 threads, BobbyB (I think) said something about the new 1516 cab having a high xmas 15" driver. I wonder if it is a new iteration of the BW?

Upon reflection, I just realized that high xmas drivers do put me in a good Christmas mood...

Hey, Thanks for all the quick response. This forum rules for sure. I am pretty happy with this speaker and I guess the final answer is going to be how it sounds to me. I am close to getting my rig up and going. My BW had a couple very small breaks so a little cone material and contact cement from behind and a little more dry time and it will be ready.
I had my Bassman head biased very hot for guitar so I will tame that and then see where I am at.
All the pics looked cool.

I really dont know.. I will email the owner and see if he will tell me.
I will say that cab is NO slouch..
Through the years ive played it all. Even the super pro stuff like Myer cabs. $$$$
And i will admit that box is a little monster.. that 15 caught me by surprise..

Is this s stock Peavy speaker or proprietary for xsonics?

I had a 1516 cab around 97/98. I ran it with a 15" cab with an Eminence driver. All powered by a 200w Hartke head.

I blew the 15" black widow driver about 3 weeks after I got the cab. Ok, it's used, someone probably thrashed it before me. Replaced the basket. Blew again in a couple weeks. Replaced the basket again. Blew in a couple more weeks. Gave up and bought another Eminence driver and it ran fine for another year until I traded it on an SVT cab.

Maybe the new BW drivers are better, but mine sure sucked. I didn't like the tone either, I thought it was woody and boxy sounding with not a lot of lows.

i had a 3620 and the 18s were dreadful. farted out badly when pushed at all, bass response was pretty mediocre, and did not sound good when driven. all the hype with the black widows was killed for me with this cab. maybe the 15s are much better, but the 18s suuuucked.

Really? Wow. Not mine. I drive mine with all sorts of different heads, Trace V6, Ampeg SVT, Mesa 400+, Reeves 225, the Peavey MKIV, Peavey Megabass, Ampeg SVT 4 PRO, and last bot not least, my MarkBass. My setup sounds, great. The powered scorpion 2X10's power the 10's in the 3620, while the other amps power the 18's in a biamp fashion. Loud Mofo!
