Blind Taste Testing...

I couldn't hear much of a difference. They all just sounded like someone with a telecaster playing way too many notes through the same pedals. Head kind of hurts now...

I think you are missing the point. It was more the idea of the thing that appealed to me rather than the actual content.

My current plan is to do this for myself on a small scale for fuzz pedals. I'm collecting a small horde of used contenders and I'm going to test them out with my rig and my bass, and decide which ones I like. Then I'll repeat blind (with the aid of a friend) and see if the same pedals win. Hopefully going all used (plus what I already have), I won't take to bad of a bath on it.

  • Zvex Woolly Mammoth
  • Frantone Lo Tone Classic Fuzz

Blue - Acquired
Black - Still looking.

I'm curious to see what results you come up with.

Another possible fuzz for your list might be the Guyatone TZ-2. I just picked it up cheap and I like its sound quite a bit on bass.

Though it isn't for me (a bit too industrial and expensive, not to mention I play active basses) I think the tone of the Wooly Mammoth will be impossible to miss in a blind test.

Then again, I suppose the fun is in finding out if that is really the case.
