I saw them live on a number of occasions, mostly at festivals. Always enjoyable. But one performance was in Grand Rapids, MI. It was memorable to me because the newly-formed Virginia Squires opened for them. Although the Osbornes put on a good show, the Virginia Squires were great.

Every time I saw the Osbornes (late 70s, early 80s) their bass guitarist Jimmy D. Brock used a left handed Rickenbacker probably the last bass guitar you'd expect to see except for a Steinberger maybe ;)

Here he is, on the left with a J-bass. As someone who didn't have the money to buy a DB at the time, seeing a BG used by a top-flight bluegrass band made me feel like less of a freak

They caught a lot of flak when they started using pickups and amps for the mandolin and banjo in the 1960s to get a better on stage sound.
