With the washer, won't these stick out beyond the back of the body of the bass? Shouldn't they be counter-sunk, and have some kind of ferrule or something to help stabilize it? Am I missing something?
Those bolts are intended to be used in an acoustic steel string. They go inside the body and thread into the end grain of the neck. You can use the inserts in the neck of an electric bolt on and then use what ever type of screw, washer, backer plate, etc. you like through the body.
