Booking 2019

Just tonight I saw my former cover band listing upcoming dates for 2018/19. Some great venues, I really enjoyed playing them. My first reaction was one of relief. The gigs were fun, the money was good, but it wore on me. Much happier in my original progressive band. We rehearse twice a week and may have a half dozen gigs next year if we’re lucky; exactly what I’m now looking for. I have to also compliment your BL, that’s a lot of work, you’re lucky to have her. Our drummer did our bookings, I don’t know how he did it, but we’re lucky to have those kind of members.

I'm the second call bassist for a corporate events, private parties, and weddings type band. The band leader has booked an average of 64 gigs per year for the last eight years, and won't take a booking if it pays less than $3,000. I have no idea how he does it, but I'm always super happy when the first call bassist can't make a gig and I get to pick it up.

See, that's the way to live. If I could sightread, I'd be all over this stuff.

Congrats to you, your band mates, and your hard-working BL who is hustling for you guys. It's always refreshing to see that relatively rare group of musicians who all share a common goal, work ethic, and availability. But beware, this sort of thing only results in a tighter band, an increasingly good reputation, and even more success. ;)

Think of all of us poor musicians who would give a gonad (or female equivalent) to be in your situation. From my perspective, the grass is always greener on your side of the fence.

lol, the members of my last band (that I busted my hump to help become successful and in-demand) started crabbing about 2.5 gigs per month on average. You can lead a horse to water...

93 so far on the calendar for 2018, and should reach triple-digits as there are a few contracts being tied up. I’m told the plan is for at least that many in 2019. That, along with travel, a day job & family.....whew - I’m tired already! Oh yeah, and a new album dropping by the end of the year to promote! 52 and still going strong! Music keeps me young.

This just came over the transom...BL has 28 gigs lined up already. Makes me happy, also scares me just a little. I mean, just seeing all of them at once. Anybody else filling their 2019 calendars? (And if anybody in the central Connecticut area wants to stop in and say Hi, here are the current opportunities :D.)

I've been working for a year and a half getting this band together with a close friend of mine, trying to establish the right lineup and getting our schtick together. We've definitely made great progress and we were really busy this summer, mostly playing bars, and just made the commitment to cut nearly all of those type of gigs loose to focus on festivals, events, and concert in the park types of gigs. We have lots of verbal commitments for shows next year, absolutely nothing on the books at this point.

I'm quietly feeling a bit panicky, but I know that everything will work out fine.

holy crap

I do all my own bands' booking + book my buddy's duo.
Have about 20 dates for 2019 going into November, February is usually a big booking month.

I do a lot of Private Parties/Events, Sometimes I don't like to fill the calendar too early lest an A+ opportunity surfaces & I'm already busy.

Nothing for 2019 yet. Last gig on the calendar is this Saturday. We've had some personal issues with a band member that put us out for a few months and we've lost momentum. The two booking agents we've used regularly are not calling now. Time to get back to pounding the pavement. Also looking for another gig...we will see how that goes.
