Booooomy speaker cab

Damping may not get rid of the boom but it may just clean it a little, giving you a little bit of a better low note ! It cleaned up some of that boomy-ness that was present in my cabs.

The cab is now fully lined.
Yes, it does sound more focused, the lows are tighter and the upper mids are less bloated. It's no miracle, but it's better.
I wonder why H&K didn't line the inside of the cab in the first place.

I know a lot of you like the eminence speakers and I was wondering if you guys ever encountered one of these 'duradome' or 'dueldome' bad boys.
It looks almost exactly like the deltalite or maybee a kappalite.

Is this just some marketing BS? or is there any advantage to this design?

I am not looking to change it since I never use it, but I'd like to know more about whats in there.

You'd think the would just make a useable product that would sell itself rather than trying to profit off of questionable rigs that often end up disscontinued.

In any case this amp also suffers from from a realy poor off axis mid response. There certainly isn't room for a mid driver. Maybe a horn crossed realy low but that will give me too many unusable upper frequencys.

So before returning this thing to the closet, I have to ask about the famous kappalite. Would it work better as a one-way speaker than this 'duradome'?

Thats good to hear.I went through the same thing.Now my cabs sound O.K.

+1 dial down 150hz.

I suspect there is a wooping hump around that octave, so a parametric eq would help.
Although even if I get a PM eq, I still have a frightening loss of upper mids unless the speaker is pointed straight at my face.

It may be a lost cause, but I am board and I need something to fix.

It's a 4 ohm speaker made by eminence. There is very little info, but I found this in the manual;

membranes (that is, a dual cone design) to this end, the 12" and
15" woofers feature a completely new technology. A machined

a wide pattern of throw, and a rich overtone spectrum that blends
perfectly with the main membrane’s low and midrange frequency

Nothing special there. The pics are of now obsolete Deltalite drivers, which were replaced by the Deltalite IIs about four years ago.

A Kappalite 3012HO would smoke the speaker that's in there. It behaves better in a smaller box than the Deltalite series, by a long shot. It'll do nothing to improve your off-axis mids, however.

The cure might be an Eminence B102. It won't have tons of lows, but the whizzer cone will greatly improve your mids, and will behave fine in that box. Be wary, that driver will be down 3db by 100hz and 8db by 50hz in a 1 cubic foot box tuned to 50hz. Also requires a baffle fitting Using any nice 10" driver might improve it too. Maybe a Basslite S2010.


If it were me I'd just roll with a 3012HO or S2012, and suffer the off-axis mids.

I hear so many good things about that famous kappalite I feel I may eventualy get it.

On a side note, The past 5 or 6 months, Iv'e been reading through all the speaker related threads posted by you guys and I find it all very interesting to say the least.
I found many answers to curious questions. Although these answers lead me to even more and more curious questions. But i'll save them for another time.
