Using 1 BOSE system per player does(or should do) 2 things:
1) Teaches you to LISTEN to yourself, others, and the full band mix because that is what you and the audience hear
2) Teaches you to self-mix IF you learn to listen to the band as a whole.

Been doing this for smaller (café, wedding...) gigs, and you are absolutely right. The thing I miss most is feeling the bass drum, otherwise I think this setup works great.

When our drummer uses his BOSE(extremely rare, only at a large outdoor setup), he uses 6 or 8 bass bins stacked behind him....he can feel it for sure. Same drummer has a Yamaha with a 15 & horn laid on the floor at our "house band" gig. My bass and his bass drum are LAAJE(Loud As A Jet Engine) via that monitor. He gotta have hearing loss in his left ear.

Talking about Bose , L'Acoustic just got these out:

No info on price , availability or what it sounds like ....
They were the first to include coaxial drivers on pro level speakers , they were the first commercial available Line array available (V-DOSC) , so I'm VERY VERY curious about these , probably light years advance from Bose or any "Pole on subs".
Price also will be light years away me thinks
