Boss ME50b output distorted

OK Some one might be able to help me.. or had a similar problem

I have a Boss Me50b and I like what it does but I have this recurring problem I just can get a good solid clean tone with out the output signal being distorted.

Ive tried a lot of different things but it seems the input signal is just too hot ..

after talking to a local guitar shop he was just left baffled said he had never struck this before .

My Set up is

Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 12T
Warwick 4x12 8ohm cab
Warwick Corvette $$
Line6 Relay G50
and the Me50b

and help ,tips or advice would be appreciated.

Ryan

I used this pedal for years without problems, often into the passive input on my amp.

I'd double-check your compressor level and the master volume, just in case there's something weird going on there.

I may be wrong (it's been a long long time since I used it in patch mode), but the EQ/master might still affect your signal regardless of the patch you're using, so might be worth checking that as well.

I don't thinl levels are the problem (unless something is very wrong with your ME50), it's designed around -10dBu which is well within the Shuttle's capability.

I have an ME-50B I've been using for years, and it's honestly one of the best bits of gear I've ever used or had.

Although it's never been bad on its own, since I've been using 'better' gear (better pedals and upgraded to a GK rig) I found that it seems to 'react' with other gear. My guess is that it's the compressor too, I've had a bit of trouble with that bit.

As soon as I introduce any pedals after it, like distortion or modulation it just doesn't work. My guess for a while now is that it's been the compressor settings. I use it on the D-Comp setting, which is a Dyna Comp model, and while I love its effect on my tone (actually struggling to replace it) it just kicks off like mad and produces silly feedback with my amp. Just seems to be giving out a real hot signal with the comp on and anything that is even remotely high gain or responds to gain afterwards just clips and sounds a bit crap.
Try mucking about with the comp settings or just turning it off completely, see what happens. If anything is really high gain in your signal path, try taking it out and see what happens.

:hmm:..oh.. that doesn't sound right at all.. is it particularly old? I've had mine for at least 6 years with no real issues.

is there anything else in the chain that could be attracting unwanted noise? Ive had issues like that with dodgy cables before... perhaps try contacting Boss if not and see what they say.

I just saw this post and its been awhile but I had the same prob when I first got mine so here goes;
I cant tell from your signal chain but Im guessing your plugging everything into the front of the amp, try the ME50b in the effects loop, its low noise and transparent. My active Ibanez SoundGear basses are pretty hot and may have been overloading the input on the Boss. First, I plug into an MXR M80 direct/dist into an SVT 3 PRO w the ME50b in the loop=SWEET! If I swap the position of the pedals, its snap crackle and pop for days. I got a great deal on the Boss about 6yrs ago and its still kicking hard. Seems really sturdy and have had no issues whatsoever w/ it in all that time. Ive gotten pretty attached to it, might get a backup just in case anything ever happened to it. Mainly used for tuner and volume pedal, I run it clean w dist from the MXR. The chorus, wah and delay w/ wah get used only occasionally and I like having them in one unit. Hope that helps.

i’ve been reading thru this chain - i’m having same issues - distorted signal when going clean - checked all aspects of my signal chain - everything is excellent & clean but when I plug in the me50b i get distorted (not in a good way) even when tuning mode …

could it be old batteries ?? nope - happens with no batteries in the unit as well… even tho I’m always using the right boss power supply…
i find it an excellent unit but this is undermining it

and the effects loop was way too loud on the amps I tested this with so I’m at a bit of a loss to correct the distortion when playing it hard (even at low volumes & low input levels …
