Boss RV-5 or EHX Holy Grail?

Very much appreciated mate :)

EDIT: Not to be a MySpace whore, but I'm looking for something similiar to the clips up on my page. Nice, lush and warm sounding. I just need something to add a bit of depth, so to speak, to my sound.

In particular, Take (once you get to "solo" bit) and Space.

I realise that a lot of it is soaked in delay, as well, but the reverb really adds to it.

I have used both and to me the RV-5 has more traditional sounding delays on it but i wasnt to impressed with the sound it came out with.

The holy grail i still use its gets everything from just a little carryover to straight up noise which is why i like it. I f i want more traditional reverd sounds i typically will just use a my delay pedal

I have yet to be disappointed with EHX.

The RV-5 is nice, but I've replaced all of my old Boss pedals with EHX ones (except my BF-2 flanger) for one single reason: sound quality. Every EHX pedal I've used has sounded better than its comparable Boss version, IMO.

Sure, Boss may tend to be more durable and less likely to fail, but it's hard to beat something that sounds good!

That being said, I haven't had the luxury of testing out a Holy Grail yet (I liked the RV-5, though). Regardless, I have little reason to doubt it's the better of the two :smug:

Another pedal to consider is the Line 6 Verbzilla. I've read a ton of good things about that one.

I'm kinda half-looking around for a reverb pedal myself. I have it narrowed down to the Holy Grail (the cheapest of the bunch, and I love EHX stuff in general, but it's also the least flexible), the RV-5 (though I've read that a lot of people think this one sounds more digital than the rest), and the Verbzilla. Haven't personally tried any of those out yet, but I do like the reverbs in my Line 6 POD XT, and if the Verbzilla sounds like that, I might end up going that route.

I have 2 reverbs in my rig.

I have the Holy Grail, and I have a vintage fender tube-drive spring tank.

The Holy Grail sounds pretty dang close to the real thing, and it's reasonably priced.

Plus, man Flerb is so freaking amazing!!!

The only downside is that it can't run on batteries, but I've had no problems running it off my Godlyke.

Cool, I've read that the Holy Grail can be real picky about power supplies and it gets wonky if you don't use the one it comes with. (I have a Godlyke as well.) I guess as long as it gets enough juice.

I've read about some power supply issues with the Line 6 Tonecore pedals (Verbzilla being one) as well, namely that they tend to not like daisy-chained power supplies. But some people seem to run them just fine on them.

Most Line 6 pedals have the polarity reversed from the BOSS-style adapter, so if you just run a normal Daisy chain, it won't work. That's why they have those green adapters in the Godlyke set...

It's already said and done I guess...

But I'd have to agree with Keb that the Verbzilla is the way to go. I'm a big reverb user, and I've tested out most of the stuff mentioned (with the exception of the digiverb.) My favorite by far was the Verbzilla, followed closely by the EHX Holier Grail. Both of them are a tad more expensive than the RV-5 or the Holy Grail...but the RV-5 sounded really sterile to me, and two of my friends had Holy Grails that crapped out on them. The Holy Grail sounds great, but I've also heard a lot of complaints about noise issues.

And the Holiest Grail just seems like overkill.

EDIT: And if your into some more experimental, weirder noises, Definitely the verbzilla. Some of the settings on there are so gnarly...it's pretty sweet. I'm a fan of that David Gilmour cave reverb, and the verbzilla definitely delivers that, plus a lot of great extras.

Hi all

i had a glance over this page so i hope what im about to bring up is alright... OK if any of you are either old enough or open enough to listen to paul youngs no parlez album this is back when pino palladino was on a roll with his fretless ray. Another band i loved was ABC they also used a fretless bass and chorus pedal...

I dont know if i made a mistake buy buying the boss ceb-3 chorus pedal..or that i should have bought the standard chorus (in the 80s obviously the 6 string was all that was availible) but i find the chrous i have just doesnt have that tone from either of those wonderful bands...I felt it was lacking on reverb...I dont need buck loads of it but i wanted to add something to what i already have...so today i bought used from GC a Boss RV-5 Digital Reverb Effect Pedal used for 90$ It should arrive in a week or so.. I do own a musicman fretless bass and i play through a 200 watt amp at home...if anyone knows what i refer to as in the bands sounds ive mentioned and your thoughts they would be very vaulble for me to hear...I also use a OC3 super octave pedal..and i bought it because the OC2 pino used for (im gonna tear your playhouse down) didnt sound like he had as much ummpff to it...YES i know things are done in the studio even back them to enhance things..but ive heard these things played live and though i wasnt close enough to see the pedals there were indeed pedals used..any thoughts PLEASe let me know and thanks so much for reading..
