I have decided to sell a BOSSA UBJ-5 bass that I planned to keep forever. It was custom made for me by Toshio when I was touring with a Broadway show around 2002. The bass has mostly been in storage and is in excellent condition (both playing and visually) with NO issues with neck or electronics. This bass sold for the mid $3,000 range with visually stunning wood and finish. It features the unique proprietary pickups and pickup balancing system. By having 2 coils active at any one time, there is NO noise. The switch allows you to select between outer coils of each pickup versus both coils on each pickup. 3 band eq that gives an immense amount of change (I would guess + or - 18 db boost and cut.) It is lightweight measuring 8.69 on my digital postal scale and 34 inch scale. I believe that it is 18mm string spacing and brass nut. I can measure, but I believe that the nut is between 1 1/2 and 1 3/4 inch. Recent set-up, new strings and plays fantastically with NO issues whatsoever. No major dings or scratches...just the slight amount of surface swirl .
I need to sell the bass to help cover a new bass that I ordered.

there are some YOUTUBE videos of a similar (or same model)
the choice bass for Hussain Jiffry (Yanni, Herb Alpert, Sergio Mendes) and Nathan Watts (Stevie Wonder's bass player)

especially at the 3:00 minute and beyond on his Bossa Bass

I will include a FENDER DOUBLE gig bag. (it will hold 2 bass guitars). Since it is a double gig bag, it will allow for more protection in the packing of the bass along with bubble wrap and the heavier cardboard rectangular box.

$1750 will get this delivered to your door in the CONUS.

Great Bossa, i love mine! These are sleepers, folks..they are lightweight, very well built & have several different tones available with the preamp/ coil tap switch configuration.(wicked slap tones also) Bossa’s have a very unique mid-forward sound, that fit well in most any style of music... If I didnt own 7 basses (1 is a Bossa Ob-5), id be all over this, Glwts!!!

Yep....Toshio is considered one of the very top luthiers in Japan. this is a hand-made instrument not assembled from 3rd party parts. Even the pickups and electronics are proprietary, designed and made by Bossa

Shipped the base back to toshio in Japan a few years ago as he wanted to put in his newest preamp and while he had it he changed the bridge to a new design. I believe it's a hip shot model that he had made for his bases

You can hear how the BOSSA Bass "sits in the mix" with authority... Hussain Jiffry playing his Bossa Bass 5 string.

Oh well, Bossa's new NBC-1 preamp really rocks!:-)...also I never saw such a bridge on any Bossa model...though this one looks great I doubt if it is really a "Hipshot" model?..reminds me much of the German "Schaller" 3D Roller bridge :-)..maybe a new Schaller type?..but I don't know! :-)

Toshio is indeed one of the best Japan has to offer!..unfortunately his builds are not well known & also rare to find...mostly because of lacking any real distribution outside of Japan!..btw, I don't think the Pu's, preamp & bridge he mainly uses are his own proprietary...I never heard that personally from him! :-)..this great pieces are rather designed & engineered by TUNE, another great brand from Japan! :-)..and customized for him..but forgive me if I'm wrong! :-)

Oh, that's actually a nice OJB-5 model & indeed in great shape :-)...with a beautiful Quilted Burst Maple top as well and this custom bridge looks great & is different of what Toshio often used...also the weight is not too much & the bass should feel balanced & comfortable?...hey, I would love to hear how this baby sounds :-)..got any sound demo?

it it is sold and I change the posting to reflect that. You can search YouTube for Hussain Jiffry and get some good feel for the sound.

Yeah, some of the videos really don't give a good representation of his sound. You might look up Yanni concert footage...... and I believe the model bass I sold was the OB not the UB.....

Thank you!...yep, that's what I meant! :-)...and the Yanni footage I know doesn't do that as well :-)...also your Bossa is a OJB-5 model...a OB type would normally come with a 25-fretboard! :-)
