I walked into the shop today thinking I was going to walk out with a Squier VM Jag, based on some reviews I have read here, and recommendations from others. However, there was really nice looking Godin Freeway on the wall that caught my eye. It was definitely more money than I had planned on spending on my first bass, but I recalled some advice in a thread here saying to buy as much bass as you could afford and worry about the amps and such later. That plan was not in my mind when I started, but it was what I used to justify the purchase. I do not have the skill to play these and judge for myself which was best, but the sales guy plugged several different ones in and played for me, making several adjustments to both the pickups and playing style based on my requests. From what I heard, I narrowed down to 2, then picked the one that felt best and looked best to my eye.
Now, I will admit this. Once we were down to the last 2, a little bias took over. My favorite acoustic guitar is my Seagull. I know these are not the most popular acoustics, but there is just something about mine that makes me want to play it rather than some of the "nicer" guitars I have owned. That being the case, I took the Godin partially due to the love I have for my acoustic. I hope that proves to be a wise choice.
