I've got a bow lent to me while mine is being rehaired. The hair on the loaner was smooth like it was new and hadn't been rosined before. As I put a few swipes on some of the hairs started coming out. I definitely wasn't swiping aggressively. The hair wasn't breaking, but slipping out of the tip. It was about 5 or 6 hairs that came out and I just stopped using the bow, not wanting to mess anything up. Does this happen with new hair or is something wrong here?

There is something wrong.
When a bow is rehaired the hairs are tied and sometimes glued together so that this doesn't happen. For this reason when hairs do brake they should be cut and not pulled out.
