Brand new dull E string

Or 4) My MIA Standard P-Bass has a darker tone compared to other P-Basses I’ve owned in the past. And I’m also talking it’s tone unplugged.

As I posted earlier, they replaced a set of D’Addario Prosteels. This fresh pack of RS66’s aren’t any brighter than the Prosteels were when they came fresh out of the package. I prefer the feel of these RS66’s compared to the Prosteels. The Rotos feel smoother. The Prosteels felt sticky for about the first week. Not so with the Rotos.

When I used RS66’s in the late 70’s into the mid 80’s, their surface felt a lot more abrasive then this set does. They were a dull, gray color back then. And most folks referred to them as unpolished or unfinished stainless steel roundwounds. Their surface now feels a bit more refined IMO.

And I’ve been playing GHS Pressurewounds exclusively for the past few years, which have a really smooth texture IMO. I wondered if there would be an adjustment period to the feel of the Rotos, but not so.

BTW, I too have been blessed with really strong hands. And a lot of that has came from working with my hands for a lot of years. IMO this particular set has a very nice surface feeling.

Update: I've sent an email to Rotosound and they'll send me a brand new set of strings. I told them a single E string would be enough but they insisted. That's good.
Anyway... all the strings are mellowing out and the difference between the E string and the others is becoming less audible. I still think the E string is "dull" but like I said, it's not audible as before, especially when playing with an amplifier at loud volumes.
Apart from this inconvenience, I really like these strings. I really do.

That’s great to hear. They are great strings IMO. I knew Rotosound would make things right.
