Finally Brazil gets some recognition. And this video doesn't show anything (is nicely done by scott tho). Thiago Espiritu Santo is one of the 2 or 3 greatest bass player alive, I mean we all have seen fast players on youtube that can play (and edit) stupidly hard stuff, but this man is the real deal.

Incredibly talented virtuosos no doubt. Complete technical mastery of the instrument.
But man do I get bored fast with the over the top tech pyrotechnics.
How about some dope songs.
Bird had the chops, but he made the technique work for the music. Not the other way around.
I can listen to bird solo for hours. The « technocrates ».....not so much.

Out of all the great players in Scotts video, Tavares's playing was the one that "spoke" to me the most.
If you have iTunes, you can get album in Portuguese or English. The English version features this song in both languages. PD nailed when he said Ed Mott’s has some Steely Dan influence. This album sounds like Steely Dan, but with much more energy than SD showed on Aja or Gaucho. The bass lines sound like Chuck Rainey in his prime. That album and that bass part are examples of the healing power of music. I have been a bit down and stressed lately, and that sound gave me a burst of energy I did not know I had!
There are some beasts in Brazil, without doubt. Also check out Michael Pipoquinha.
