big fan of brian's playing with serge. Vu de l'exterieur and homme de tete chou chou are really groovy records and his playing has a lot to do with that.

Hi Brian was my dad sadly he passed away just before Christmas I would love to hear from anyone who knew him or just loved his music xx
Sammy i'm sorry to hear that, my thoughts and prayers are with your family. I really enjoy all Brian's work with Serge Gainsbourg, really a great bassist.
Sammy, have you been in touch with Mo Foster? He had a picture of Brian working (headphones on playing bass in the studio) in his book called "British Rock Guitar". Mo knows of Brian's passing and I'm sure would like to get in touch if you haven't already. If you google Mo Foster, you'll find his website.

I first saw the name Brian Odgers on Al Stewart's album Past, Present and Future (1973). There were two bass players listed (the other was Bruce Thomas, who later played with Elvis Costello for many years) and the tracks weren't credited individually, so I never knew which songs he was on, but all the bass playing on that record (hell, everything on that record) was wonderful. I first heard it was I was about ten years old in the mid-'70s and it's one of very few albums that has always been with me.

Hiya Sammy. I’ve just revisited this post and am devastated to learn of your dads passing. I still recall watching him playing with Van Morrison on a BBC2 arts magazine ( the Late Show?) and being blown away by his contribution to the performance. I’m sure you must be immensely proud of his achievements. Best wishes.
Brian Odgers is amazing!! I'm so glad his relatives were able to see this thread and feel the appreciation. I bought an original LP of Orange by Al Stewart yesterday on a whim and discovered "News From Spain" with Brian Odgers on bass. Jaw dropping! It is gorgeous but it also just fits the song and doesn't detract. Just wanted to chime in--this is really my favourite thing about talkbass; sharing the love and information about these lesser-known players-like Herbie Flowers etc.
