Brightening up my MIJ Mustang...

This Mustang of mine needs some new strings, I would like to get something a little bit brighter out of it--I know that the short scale is going to be a little thumpier and rounder than a long scale, but I figure strings could help a little bit.

I've heard mixed things about shortscale strings fitting this bass, the current strings on it are an old old set of regular scale d'addario rounds that I cut--they fit OK but the sound is pretty dead, part of that is the age of the string though.

I was thinking about DR hi-beams, maybe the shortscale set? Maybe some steel rotos? I'm not sure... guidance? :confused:

im a big fan of daddario strings, i use a few different kinds. for you id suggest trying out there steel round wounds. ive never actually used them but they are supposed to be alot more bright because of the steel rather then the nickel. also you may want to consider a no load tone pot(wich you can also turn the pot thats already in there in to one, ive done that a few times and theres some good youtube videos that will walk you threw it) its gives you more out put and more treble because it takes the tone cap out of the mix seding your signal strait to the output jack.

DR does make Short Scale strings...

In some cases with string through basses even though it is a "Short Scale" instrument you may need Medium or Long scale strings depending on the instruments design.

I believe for the Mustang you should use Medium Scale or 32" strings to compensate for the instruments design.

You can use any Stainless Steel strings. There are many available for Medium scale instruments.
