The DR Bootzillas IME sound like a very broken in set of stainless DR Lo-Riders. Not very bright at all.
ya, see those I would not want. I do really like the new string zing, but cant have them dead so fast!

do you like the EXP's? Man there are way more coated strings then I thought, this will be tough!
Yeah there are a lot of coated strings out there...
Cleartone EMP Coated
D'Addario EXP Coated
D'Addario EXP Reds Coated
DR Dragon-Skin (Stainless Steel Round Core)
DR Black Beauty / Red Devils / Cool Blue (K3 NPS Round Core)
DR NEON (NPS Round Core)
Elixir (NPS & Stainless)
Ernie Ball Coated
GHS Coated Bass Boomers
Rotosound Nexus Coated (Black coated Alloy 52 (Nickel/Iron))
There may be a couple more out there...
Are the Dragon Skins brighter than Sunbeams? Because 'bright' is not the word I would use to describe Sunbeams.
I'm not directly referring to Sunbeams as bright, particularly if your point of comparison takes into account more than the 3 sets I am speaking of. I would refer to Sunbeams as warm and relatively balanced with emphasis in the upper mids.
Consider my reference of bright or brightness as a reference to the treble range of the tonal spectrum. These two sets of strings are on similar playing field fresh out of the box - a controlled brightness.
FWIW Dragon Skins have a very very thin coat on them... they are not like Elixir where you can actually see the clear coat.
Its weird becuase you would think you would need to see that coat, something thick enough to be visible in between the windings (where the nasty bad stuff goes to kill tone). Not so with Dragon Skins. They visibly look like regular strings, that are ever so sligtly darker then regular Hi-Beams.
There IS a coating though, without a doubt. I broke a string by accident, and while taking them off my Fender Jazz and pulling them through the bridge, little "shavings" if you will flaked off the string - so there's something on there.
Tone - love em. Great finger style SS Roundwound tone!
Thank you, you have just helped me make up my mind...going for the dragons. Did you notice if they last any longer? I just cant have strings dieing on me in a few weeks like the sunbeams did!
