Just wanted to say that I’ve been enjoying practicing with these 2 apps “Quartet 1” and Quartet 2”. 150 Jazz standards on each app. You can change tempo and key for all songs. So if you got an iPad or iPhone I can highly recommend these:

Also check their Session Band apps, which lets you create your own chord progressions, based on styles. You can also change key and tempo, and after the latest update the tempo changing is now much smoother. The update offers real-time tempo shifting with an imperceptible loss in audio quality. I’m diggin’ it, too! It’s a unique bridge between band in the box/iRealpro and Aebersold. When you enable the sax player, too - holy crap. Whoever they got to blow on these tunes is killin’, imho.

This is really the perfect tool at the perfect time to help me get control of technique and tunes in this new fifths tuning. Awesome!

I’m glad you like it - and I agree 100%. It’s so much more inspirational than iRealPro for practicing, though iReal pro is still handy when a tune I don’t know is called at a jam session.

What are the the "in-app purchases"?

They’re pretty useless as far as I can tell. You can pay $1 a track (or $50 for all) to download each tune as a GarageBand or m4a file … (?) I am not sure what the application would be, though. For $5, 150 tune play along sounds more than fair. The sax solo contrafact tunes are so good and clever, too. They had to shake it up to avoid fees. Lots of accessible solo material to fish from.

I wonder why the Aebersold play along archive hasn’t been app’d in a similar fashion. Probably red tape and licensing hoops, if I had to guess. Chris might have insight …

I think the in-app purchases let you export the tracks of each song as individual tracks for use in a DAW (Logic, Cubase, etc.) in case you’d want to record yourself and then further mix the tracks. I like the app ‘as is’ and probably wouldn’t use the in-app purchase feature.

Oh, and if you have a newer M1 or M2 Mac computer, the iPad version of the Quartet apps also install and run perfectly fine on the Mac computer, too.
