For bass there was Dave Richmond and Kluas Voormann, both formerly with Manfred Mann who later became session musicians.

I'll put in another plug for Mo Foster's book "17 Watts" (out of print but available used) for any one who wants to follow up this topic. He has a chapter on session work, names a lot of the guys mentioned here. But it sounds more like they were a loose bunch of first call musicians and not the tighter knit gang associated with the labels in the US.

The book is a fun read. Mo had a sense of humor and a good style. RIP.
