Broughton P-15 v Fliptop pedal

my old Berg IP112/ EX 112 stack might want to try a tube feel driver. Uber clean now: Zon VB5 => Bass Buddy => Berg stack; or Zon => Avalon U5 => Bergs.

My thought: Zon => Fliptop pedal => Bergs

But, I also like this idea: Zon => Broughton P-15 => Bergs.

I wonder if it’s a fair comparison? Will the Fliptop pre do it justice? Will the P-15 be better than tha Avalon or BB setup?

Scratching my head…

Any thoughts?

The P15 is a recreation of the B15 preamp whereas the Fliptop pedal also has the option of adding speaker cab emulation. I think if you really want to get the feel element the speaker cab emulation might allow you to dial in more than just the simple preamp, irrespective of tubes vs transistors. But I say this not having tried either, so maybe the P15 has enough coloration to get you where you want to be.

Might also want to consider the sushi box preamps as an option. Looks like the slampeg is now called the [redacted b], guessing someone got a strongly worded letter.

+1 on the Sushi Box options. I have not tried the Slampeg but the Underground Accelerator, while more of a Fender tonestack, certainly allows you to dial in as much hair as needed. I eventually found my bliss with the Finally V3 at the end of my pedal chain into my amp/FOH. All the tube goodness I need and nothing I don’t

I don't know, but my standard sound now is a Fliptop (without the cab sim, that is too scooped IMO) drive at 11am or 1pm depending if I want enlivening or to actually hear some drive, small bass and treble boost...into a Diamond Bass Comp (with it's secret tilt sauce). After years of trying pre/overdrives the Fliptop has the subtility and fidelity I've been looking for. I will add drives before it, it "helps" it all...

I haven’t played a flip top but the P-15 will make any amp feel and sound huge. IME the P-15 works better going into the fx return as it can sound like too much gain going into the front end of an amp
