BTB776 or SR1605?

Hey guys I just got my SR1605 and I almost feel like I made the wrong decision. The sound is great but it doesn't feel right. I played a BTB for a few years while a teenager and I had to sell all my basses while I struggled in my early twenties. I'm finally in a position where I can get a bass and dedicate again. Should I return the SR1605 and go with the BTB776 ? Right now I cannot afford a Premium BTB. Is there too much of a difference?

Hey man!

I can only say that if it doesn't feel right to you, you should get that BTB 776 :) It's an amazing bass and looking at the fact you already played a BTB for a few years only should make it even better for you to get back to the world of BTB.
If you don't have the money for the Premium 1406e, you just get the 776 and if you have money you can always upgrade it in the future :) Maybe some nice Nordstrand Dual Coil pickups or something else.

Just go the BTB my friend! A unhappy bass player is probably the worst things possible in the world of music :P

I struggled with this very decision of getting an SR or BTB 6 string. I went to a couple of different shops and compared different models, and ended up chosing the BTB...

But that's just me...

You really have to make that decision yourself. Bring your strap to a store that has both series, strap it on and play them both. To make up my mind I was there for about two hours, playing some licks on one, then switching to the other one. There was times the BTB was the winner, and times I felt the SR was the winner, but I had to keep switching back and forth to really make up my mind. After about 30 or so swaps, my mind was made up.

I haven't bought anything yet, but am planning to in the next few weeks.

EDIT TO ADD: When I was doing my tests, I mostly did it unplugged. I wanted to know which one felt right.. I can always modify pickups, electronics, strings, EQ, etc, to get a closer sound that I want... So I wasn't hugely concerned with that.

Thanks for the advise, if I'm double guessing my decision, most likely I should go with the BTB.

That SR is beautiful. If they would sell it with black bridge and tuners I'd already have the four string. The string spacing may be getting to you. I think the BTB is wider on the 5 strings. Go with what feels good. As Mr. Kievit said, you can always change the electronics.
