budget cabs (GK 2x10's)

Ok first off just getting back in the swing of things and found this forum, so I searched but can't find a direct answer.
So my question is I am looking to replace my 15 and 2 8 Peavy cab with 2 2x10 cabs. I looked at the GK ones for 199 a piece then noticed they have like 4 different versions all going up in price by about 100$ per upgrade to the goldline cabs, then the neo etc. So what I am wondering are you getting the extra dollars worth out of the cabinet. Examples are if I spend the extra on the goldline cabs will I notice a difference or should I either go with the $200 cabs or the neo cabs. It's a lot more confusing now then when I purchased my rig many years ago. Many more options as well as manufactures.

As of now I am still running a Peavy MegaBass head, puts out a descent amount of power, the 1516 cab just sounds worn and old, and well it is old. So was picking one upgrade at a time, I would love to run a new head and cabs, but now I can only afford cabs... So the head will have to wait, but I would like to be able to run these cabs as well. The heads I was looking at are either the shuttler 12, or gk 1001.

If you like the 1001 RB II, you might want to consider just buying the MB210 combo and then buying an extension cab later :) The 115 would be a good bet.

That said:
I would never recommend buying cheap cabinets you can get in Guitar Center/etc cetera new. They are almost inevitably junk. GLX, BLX, Behringer cabs, Hartke's cheap stuff, etc. Almost all junk.

Buy quality used cabinets, cheap Ebay cabinets (seismic audio), or save up and go a little higher end.

The Neo cabs are really worth the money over BLX cabs. One Neo 210 will close to outperform a BLX 4x10 - particularly at the same ohms (both are 8 ohms). A single Neo212 would be a good bet as well, probably superior to the 210 in value.

Cool thanks for the responses... Basically what I am hearing is that a good cabinet won't flop on the low end and will have some good punch. If you go with the cheap cabs they will just flop at full power, much like my 1516 is doing now.

I recently went with "two" Avatar 210 cabinets for a vertically stacked 410 rig.
Avatar uses a tried and proven cab design.
Their very well built.
They use the same speakers and horns that are used in the high-dollar, brand name cabs.
They sell well below what the brand name cabs go for.
And, the main thing...They sound "very" good!

The 1516 was a great cab - but it is way underpowered. The head was designed to run with 2 of those cabs, one per side of the power amp. I used to use one with a GK 400RB, and I was definitely able to get a punchy, well defined sound...if you want to sell it, let me know.

+1 on the neo. I have a neo 4x10 and a BLX 4x10 (trying to sell that) my opinion. two BLX 4x10 cabs can not do what one neo 4x10 from the same head. if the neo got 300watts and the two blx got 300 each. I still believe the neo would out preform the 2 blx.
