Budget Monitor Suggestions

Need some advice guys…I've been playing through a Yamaha THR10II but just using it as an all in one interface/speakers and using plugins for my tone. The speakers are starting to give and there's a rattle that I can't fix so I'm going to switch to a normal USB interface. I need to know if there are any studio monitors (pair) under $250 that are going to be suitable (just playing along with tracks and self-monitoring, no serious studio work) or should I just stick with my KS10 in ears? I don't mind the in ears, but unless I NEED to be quiet, I'd prefer not to wear them all the time.

If you can increase your budget to $318 you could grab JBL LSR305 monitors, or $350 and you can grab a pair or Kali LP-UNF monitors. That's about as good as it gets in this price point. If you can find something used you might land within your budget, but if not you likely won't be impressed with the low frequency response:

I did just find the Kali LP-UNF monitors and they seem like they will do the job....now I'm trying to decide if I do those + USB interface, or get a Phil Jones Double Four...I could run my tracks into it via aux to play along with. I would still need an interface if I wanted to record, but this would give me an actual amp that could be used in other situations as well.....I'm torn haha

I've been using a pair of Presonus Eris 4.5T and pretty happy with them. I wanted something relatively cheap that would sound good, I have no need for 'pro studio quality'. They cost me something like £130 about 5 years ago. I recently added a matching subwoofer (Sub 8BT), but while it's great when you want to feel the thump, for the most part I use the monitors as they are. They roll off at 80 Hz, which I thought might be a little high, but they work great. Just be careful if you're mixing because you might be adding a bit more bass than you think, but if you're mixing you'd be checking with more than one set of speakers anyway. I think for your purposes those monitors would do a good job and won't cost a lot.

An alternative might be something like the Headrush FRFR-GO bluetooth speaker. It's reasonable flat in response, designed to not add much colour, so it works very well with guitar and bass using amp and speaker simulations. It's small, but packs a punch, it's got good bass too, and it's very portable.

I use a pair of Presonus 3.5 Eris monitors for my computer speakers, and they work pretty well for playback. I don't think that they would handle both bass and backing tracks. In the studio I'm using a pair of Eris 5.25 monitors and they would probably do the job, they are currently priced at $124 US ea. on Amazon which would hit your price point. They do what I need them to do... no complaints. Sending your THR10II output to the monitors would probably be a good workaround and you would have a set of studio monitors for down the road.
