Building a new cab?

Would it be cheaper to buy a new one, or to build my own?
I have no experience building cabs, however, I am the type of person that if I study on something long enough and follow instructions closely, I can do a damn good job.
I play mainly metalcore music with a 5 string bass, commonly in drop B, Bb, A, and the highest I (usually) go is Drop C. I play live, in small to large venues. Sometimes I play jazz, but only in small venues, at home, or jamming with some friends. I'm concerned mostly with my low/mid end.
Particularly, I'm interested in a 4x10. Would a tweeter be too much trouble for someone like me to put into the cab? Would I be better off just buying one? What would you guys recommend?

If your wanting the learning experience, (and have the time, tools, place to do it, ect.,) a DIY cab can be fun.
If not, I'd check out the T.B. classifieds for used 410 cabinets.
If you want to go with a new 410, I'd suggest looking into Avatar bass cabinets.
I'm not sure, but, at todays prices and adding in your time to build, that you could build a 410 with a horn, handles, metal grill, ect., for what you can buy a Avatar 410 Neo cabinet for.

You're not going to DIY a 410 for cheaper than you can buy at least any used one and most new ones. You diy to get superior grade cabs that either aren't offered at all or are way expensive. Or to do something like design modularity or size for your individual situation although that's pretty well covered commercially as well, or make use of raw drivers you already own or just because you enjoy it.

Check out the DIY sticky at the top of the page, tons of info and examples there. When you gather some knowledge of the subject, you won't be building a square 410.
