Hodgy might be what makes Washington cool? I live a mile from the border, therefor I can gripe about the state... Welcome, Hodgy! 
EDIT: The video really makes you look like you'd just be more comfortable building amps... Which I have to say, is not a bad thing.

We buy the PCBs. We haven't had a wave solder machine and a PCB assembly line since wayyyy before my time here.
Forgive my curiosity hodgy and meaning no disrespect, is building the amp just a matter of plugging the various sub assemblies together??
I know pointing out a typo is a jerk move, but this one is pretty good.

Well, yeah, that's the short version. An eloquent quote from Ryan, one of our media guys:
"The difference between made in the USA and assembled in the USA is a complicated legal matter. In this case the wood itself constituted such a major portion of the overall material (wood which is imported), that we could not outright say made in the USA. However, EVERYTHING that can be done to make these rigs is done here, in house, by Hodgy and his team. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to explain!"
I can't really speak to what goes on overseas, I've fixed a whole bunch of returned CLs and VRs, mostly from Vietnam and Korea and I DO know that the vast majority of root cause failures are not 'shoddy workmanship' or 'poor testing conditions'.

Posts like this are why this site is cool. Even if this guy is a rare gem at ampeg, it's still a plus.
Lets try to remember the last time we got to speak directly to the one and only guy that builds processors for Microsoft. And it's not just this one dude from Ampeg. greenboy? That guy from QSC that posts all the time? Larry Hartke? How about Genz Benz?
Ladies and gentleman, you are currently in a place where you can speak directly to (if you ask the right question) the designers and builders of arguably the world's best basses, bass amps, preamps, cabs... You can't beat this, if you are interested in the details of what happens between your hands and the ears of your audience.
There is some recognition deserved here.

I would personally LOVE to build a Heritage VR. There has been talk, but for right now it's just talk.
I'm happy to share whatever I can with everybody. I try to stick to the facts- anything I say that is subjective is wholly unendorsable by the Ampeg brand.
Fun fact: I use a crappy Austin P-bass copy to play test 99% of the heads and cabs that I build.

What do you do with tubes or speakers that don't past your testing?
